For the two or three of our readers who are unaware, today marks the beginning of Apple's 2006 World Wide Developers Conference. The week will be kicked off by Steve Jobs' 10am (PDT) keynote.
A dizzying array of product announcements are expected, for those who have not been following the rumors.
The most significant product announcement anticipated for the keynote is the Intel-based
Mac Pro line of towers, replacing the Power Macintosh G5 line. Most speculation points to Apple using the
Woodcrest CPU (eighth-generation server and workstation chip, 65 nm, dual-core, 4 MB L2 cache) in these new machines, allowing the company to follow the Power Mac G5 pattern of dual and quad core workstations using single and dual processors, respectively.
Also expected is a developer preview of Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard as well as a move to Intel CPUs for the Xserve line,
possible new displays, and possible CPU upgrades for the MacBook Pro (from Core Duo to Conroe).
We will bring a full set of details after the dust settles. In the meantime, watch a live play-by-play transcript of the keynote at
