Apple releases Core 2 Duo based MacBook Pros

As anticipated, Apple has released an updated MacBook Pro model that dispenses with the Intel Core Duo processor in favor of the new Intel Core 2 Duo (codename: Merom) based on the Intel Core microarchitecture (which the Core Duo was not). The new units bring a variety of performance increases and enhancements; Apple claims up to a 39% performance increase over the previous MacBook Pro.
